The relationship between Components of Spiritual Intelligence and Personal Identity

Knowledge of one’s identity is an important issue in the world of today. Therefore, determining factors which are effective on developing personal identity is essential. The present research aimed at investigating the relationship between the main components of spiritual intelligence and personal identity and the role of these components in identity formation. The sample included 381 (133 males and 248 females) university students (18-25 years old) in public universities in Tehran who were selected through multilevel random sampling. Two questionnaires of spiritual intelligence and personal identity were used to collect the data. The collected data was then analyzed using correlation coefficiency, multiple regression, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. The results indicated positive significant relationship between components of spiritual intelligence and personal identity. Based on the findings of the study, spiritual intelligence can predict 19.2 % of variance in personal identity variable. Therefore,spiritual intelligence has a significant role in predicting stable identity. The results showed no significant difference in boys and girls in terms of their spiritual intelligence. However, there was a significant difference in their personal identity, in a way that, girls showed a more developed personal identity than boys.
