A Comparative Study of Plato and Rumi's Thoughts: A Critical Review

Author(s):
Abstract:
It goes without saying that Plato is a great thinker who has exercised a great influence on the Western and Eastern culture and civilization. His influence goes to the extent that Whitehead considers the whole philosophy of the West nothing other than a footnote on Plato's philosophy. His thoughts were effective in fashioning Islamic gnosis. In this regard a lot of comments have been made. Yet, it should be noted that our familiarity with the very Plato is not considerable; that is, we largely know Plato through Plotinus and Jalinus. The book, A Comparative Study of Plato and Rumi's Thoughts is an attempt to bring to light the impact of Plato on mystical views of Rumi, the great poet and gnostic of seventh century A.H. In this article while introducing this work, reference have been made to certain critical points which can be effective in later edition.
