Processes of Finding Equivalents in the Field of Computer and Information Technology by Farhangestan (Persian Language Academy) and Their Acceptance in Text Books

The field of computer and information technology has provoked Persian Language Academy experts to resort to organized and systematic coining in order to heed the principles of maintaining Persian language, and to help Persian language survive as a science language. The Present study consists of two parts: Persian Academy’s processes of finding equivalents in the field of computer and information technology which include: loan words, loan translation, loan interpretation, loan translation and interpretation, loan shift , and word coinage (neologism). Among these processes, finding equivalents based on loan translation and interpretation and also word coinage had higher frequencies in comparison to other processes. In the second part, Academy's accepted, specialized and practical coined words and expressions were compared with words and expressions used in computer and information technology books. It was concluded that absolute acceptance of Academy’s coined equivalents in text books was %28.57 and relative acceptance of the coined equivalents was %14.96. %56.46 of the coined equivalents was not used in computer books at all.
