Structural Analysis of Sonnet-Narratives of Sa di

Message:
Abstract:
Persian literature has a long history in composing sonnet which was initially used to express the emotions of love. With the formation of mysticism, sonnet served mystics and mystical secrets. This apparent change begins with Sanaee and reaches perfection with the love sonnets of Sa’di. One characteristic of Sa’di in composing sonnet is narration in the form of sonnet which is called sonnet-narrative. In this study an attempt is made to classify Sa’di’s sonnet-narrative, to analyze the structure of those composed in the form of sonnet, and to investigate the variable elements in anecdote form. The results indicate that of a total of 701 sonnets, 89 are sonnet-narrative of which 5 are based on the element of dialogue. 27 of the sonnet-narratives are descriptive, and 57 are anecdotes. Some elements of fiction such as dialog, character, point of view, space and time are also examined in the anecdotes.
