The Role of Salmasi Family in Samarra

Abstract:
The great Salmasi family was one of the famous tribes of Samarra’, which was highly respected among the people. This family was migrated from the Iranian part of Azerbaijan to Samarra’ whereas many of their forefathers were in charge of the construction and repair of the holy shrine of Imamayn Askariyain (a.s) and Kazimayn (a.s).
The head of this family was Mirza Muhammad Salmasi who had, in addition to his high cognitive and religious status, encouraged the people to contribute in construction and repair of the shrine of infallible Imams (a.s) due to his devotion to Ahlulbayt (the progeny of holy Prophet (a.s)) .
His sons and grandsons were also diligent to the construction and repair work of the shrines of Askariyain (a.s) and Kazimayn (a.s) along with their own cognitive and religious duties, whereas after death, he got buried in his family tomb in Rewaq-e-Sharqi (eastern porch) of the shrine of Kazimayn (a.s). It has been reported various benevolences of the virtuous grandees of this family like meeting with Imam of the Times (a.s).
This article introduces the respected family of Salmasi and some of its noble members and also the meritorious services of this family for construction and repair of infallible Imams (a.s) meanwhile it quotes the articles from the books of Muslim scholars written about them.
