The comparison of the effectiveness of acceptance/commitment therapy and dialectical behavior therapy in oppositional defiant disorder In a Military Hospital

one of the most common psychiatric disorders among preschool children are disruptive behavior disorders, which is mainly oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). The aim of the present study was to the comparison of the effect of acceptance and commitment (ACT) therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) in children with ODD.
The research design was a trial. A total of 30 children aged 7-12 was selected by child psychiatrist as ODD at the Military hospital of Tehran and were randomly divided to two groups (ACT and DBT) and then received 8 weekly, 2 h of therapy (each Parents were completed child symptom inventory (CSI) before and after treatment. Each of the two groups were received 8 weekly sessions of therapies (ACT and DBT). Data were analyzed through the paired-samples T test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).
The results showed that both treatments (ACT and DBT) are significantly effective in the treatment of ODD, and also there is no significant difference between the two therapies in terms of effectiveness.
ACT and DBT could be considered as the effective treatments for ODD.
