The Effects of Cochlear Implant on Parental Mental Health and marital satisfaction of parents

The purpose of this study is the impact of cochlear implants on the mental health and marital satisfaction of parents. Population of all parents (both mothers and fathers) who were deaf and their children during 1391-92 for children cochlear implant cochlear implant surgery Baghiyatallah hospital referred to were included. A sample of 58 parents (29 women and 29 men) were selected using systematic sampling or systematic. In order to collect data from a questionnaire of 28 questions about mental health (GHQ) of Goldberg, marital satisfaction was used. This study is a quasi-experimental pretest posttest. At first, parents, and pre-operative (pre-test) and then again 6 months after the surgery and the post-test questionnaires responded. In this study, descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, correlation) and inferential statistics (t-paired) was used. The results obtained showed that the average mental health scores at post-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental group significantly lower in the control group, Marital satisfaction scores at post-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental group significantly higher in the control group. It is concluded that cochlear implants in deaf children improve and enhance mental health; marital satisfaction of parents of deaf children is effective.
