Investigation of Cu and Co Removal from mining industrial wastewater using synthesized Magnetite-Bentonite nano adsorbent
Author(s):
Abstract:
Heavy metals removal from polluted wastewater is one of the major concerns due to their harmful effectson human health and the environment. The aim of this study is to absorb Cu2 and Co ions from wastewater by means of a synthesized magnetite bentonite nono - adsorbent. Initially, nano- adsorbent was produced by coprecipitation techniques. Then, the resultant material was analyzed and evaluated by FT-IR, XRD and SEM methods, and it was used as an adsorbent in filtration stages. In this research, the central composite design was used for the design and programming of the experiments. The effects of different variables including adsorbent amount, contact time, metal ion concentration, and pH were studied on the Cu and Co ion removal. Then, optimum conditions were suggested for the highest absorption conditions using CCD designing model. The results show 94% and 95% removal for Cu2 and Co, respectively. Finally by determining the optimum conditions, examinations were carried out on Sarcheshmeh copper mine tailings and the results show 30% and 50% removal for Cu2 and Co respectively.
