Investigation the feasibility of chemical weed control in Balangu (Lallemanti aroyleana Benth)

A field experiment was carried out at the Research Farm of college of Agriculture, Ferdowsi University in 2013- 2014 to assess the effect of some herbicides on growth and yield of Balangue (Lallemanti aroyleana). Treatments consisted of full season hand weeding, full season weed competition with balangu, 2 times hand weeding at 25 and 50 days after Balangu planting respectively and the application of trifluralin, metribuzine, oxiflurfen, pendimetalin, eradican herbicides at their recommended dose and their reduced dose application plus hand weeding at 50 days after Balangu planting. Results showed, that the effect of applied treatments were significant on Balangu yield and weed density and weed biomass. The highest Balangu seed yield (711 kg ha -1) was recorded in full season hand weeding treatment, with no significant different when oxiflurfen herbicide applied at recommended dose (0.36 kg a.i. ha-1), oxiflurfen applied at reduced dose (0.24 kg a.i. ha-1) plus hand weeding at 50 days after Balangu planting and also trifluralin applied (0.48 kg a.i. ha-1) plus hand weeding at 50 days after Balangu planting. However, the highest weed control was observed at 25, 55 and 75 days after planting planting by application of trifluralin (0.48 kg a.i. ha-1) plus hand weeding, application of oxiflurfen herbicide at recommended dose (0.36 kg a.i. ha-1), and its application at reduced dose (0.24 kg a.i. ha-1) plus hand weeding. According to the results, application of trifluralin (0.48 kg a.i. ha-1) plus hand weeding, application of oxiflurfen herbicide in recommended (0.36 kg a.i. ha-1), and its application in reduced dose (0.24 kg a.i. ha-1) plus hand weeding 50 days after Balangu planting could be useful in Balangu weed control and applied herbicides could be as selective herbicides for Balangu.
