Causal Factors and Value Center of Alternative Futures and Preferable/ Desirable Future of Sustainable City Based on Environmental Ethics

This article has been formed under influence of a set of knowledge of urban development, future studies and ethics using causal layered analysis (CLA) – a well-known methodology for categorization of different viewpoints and considerations regarding futures - so that preferable future of sustainable gets recognized and explicated in line with environmental ethics, whilst a profound understanding of underlying layers of issues such as alternative futures, sustainable city, eco city, green city, compact city, low-carbon city, healthy city, livable city, smart city and factors affecting their formation is achieved. Thus, studying “Sustainable City” in terms of “environmental ethics” is a necessity for appropriate understanding of the future, and a review over futures of sustainable cities’ visions for giving insights into the possible measures to be taken in the field of “urban development” for building a better future far from utopia.
The results indicate that people whose current and final environment is based on nature of the Omnipotence try to improve the Earth and reside in the Tayyeb City. Eco-centered attitude which supposes ecosphere or earth as human environment has shaped the concept that form of a city must be contingent upon processes of ecosphere, but relying merely on environmental governance cannot make residents of eco city/green city as preferable/desirable future of sustainable city active enough to cause prosperity on earth. In Quran’s viewpoint, residents of such cities enjoy Tight Livelihood.
