Effectiveness of Parent Training and Behavior Management on General Health of Mothers of Children with Autism

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Parent Training and Behavior on General Health of mothers of children with autism .
This study used a pre-post test semi -experimental design. An Available sampling approach was considered. Two groups of 20 mothers of children with autism were recruited from the list of mothers who registered to obtain services from the Psychiatry Institute of Tehran. They randomly assigned into experimental and control groups (each group = 10 members). Ten sessions of Tong Group Training were implemented for one group and the control group received no similar intervention. To collect data, the General Health Questionnaire of Goldberg and Hiller were used.
ANCOVA Test was applied to analyze data. ANCOVA showed statistical significant difference in studied groups.(P>0/05). Parent training approach had a significant impact on mental health of mothers of children with autism. Similar impacts were also reported on symptoms of anxiety, depression and social. However, no significant effect on the components of somatic symptoms was seen.
The findings of this study have important implications for psychotherapists. These findings were discussed.
