Comparison of General Health, Mental Health and Coping Strategies among Patients with Diabetes Type 1, 2 and Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

Chronic diseases have widespread effects on individual, social and coping strategies in subjects. The aim of this study was to compare public health, mental health and coping strategies among patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes, and patients with multiple sclerosis.
Three groups of 24 patients, with diabetes type 1, 2 and patients with multiple sclerosis referred to the Diabetes Center and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Hamedan city were studied. Demographic data using the checklist, the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), Derogates mental disorder symptoms checklist (SCL-90-R) and Blyngzomus Coping Strategies were collected. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc test.
The results showed significant differences between the three groups in public health, mental health and coping strategies (P≤0.001). Also; the comparison between groups have shown that patients with diabetes type 1, 2 and patients with multiple sclerosis have significant difference in public health, mental health and coping strategies scores.
Complete improvement of chronic diseases is always impossible. So one of the main goals is to control chronic diseases. Our results partly clear the responsibility for health planners in Hamadan to prepare these services.
