Effectiveness of Emotion Regulation Training on Mental Health of Mothers by Children with Mental Disorders

Abstract:
Introduction
Mental health not only causes to inefficiency of psychiatric patients; but also highly affects on their families and disrupt their performance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching emotion regulation on the mental health of mothers by children with mental disorders.
Materials And Methods
Among families of children with mental disorders in Hamadan city, 34 families were selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received 12 sessions of emotion regulation interventions, but control group did not received any intervention. Data analyzed via descriptive and co-variance methods and P ≤ 0.05 considered as significant difference.
Results
The results showed that after the intervention; there was a significant difference between experimental and control groups about mental health (P = 0.001). Also; our results showed that these changes preserved during follow-up duration.
Conclusions
In the field of treatment and dealing with people suffering from mental illness, emotion regulation training due to its nature seems to be effective.
