The Root Causes of the AKP's Foreign Policy toward Revolutions in West Asia

Author(s):
Abstract:
The main goal of this paper is probing the foreign policy of Turkish Justice and Development party (AKP) toward recent revolutions in the Middle East by an analysis-explanatory approach. In this respect, the question that arises is that "how is the logic of the AKP's foreign policy toward the revolutions in the region and what is the origin and roots of these positions?" Accordingly, the assumption is that "the AKP's foreign policies and positions toward developments of regional countries and popular revolutions, is a self-interested policy with a lot of contradictions brought by factors such as west orientation, strategy of making new Ottoman and placement and empowering the elites. This paper shows that Turkey –with the rise of AKP- is among countries trying to play the role leadership in the region. Hence, a competition has been created, especially after the Islamic Awaking, between Turkey and some countries –like Saudi Arabia- on the model of Islam; which tends Turkey to a secular one.
