The Effect of Socio-Cultural Factors on the Tendency for Consuming Alcoholic Beverages among Young People in Kurdistan
Consumption of alcoholic beverages is one of the social anomalies and many factors affect the tendency of citizens to that. In recent years, not only the consumption of alcoholic beverages has significant growth but also it has become common among females and lower agers. In this respect, the aim of this study was to explain the factors influencing the tendency to the consumption of alcoholic beverages in Kurdistan.
In terms of its objectives the present study is of an applied research type and in terms of methodology it is a descriptive-survey study. The statistical population consisted of 18-29-year-old youths in Baneh and Sanandaj. The sample size was set as 342 individuals using Cochran formula. The samples were selected by multistage cluster sampling method. The data gathering tool was a valid (according to experts) and reliable (α=.87) researcher-made questionnaire. The results indicate a significant relationship between the variables individual anomic condition, hope for the future, the availability of alcohol, religious commitment and consumption of alcohol in the family and the variable of "tendency to consumption of alcoholic beverages". And also, the variables of hope for the future, family control, differential connections, and religious adherence (individual and family) explain about 68% of the variance in consumption of alcoholic beverages in the target population.
