Police and TV Interaction: Crime Prevention or Crime Training
Mass media, especially television, play an important role in making the infrastructure of public thoughts and providing security and crime prevention. According to their qualitative and quantitative development, these tools in practice can be both an opportunity and also a threat for social security. The present study has examined the role of recent police TV series in crime prevention and training.
In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied research and in terms of its method it is a qualitative study. It is conducted through quantitative content analysis method. The population of the analysis included the popular police TV series in the recent 5 years. Among them, the series of "wound", "freedom" and "Michael" were selected for analysis. To examine the validity of the study the content or face validity was employed. According to the consensus of opinions of the experts and the professors of crime and media, the studied and extracted indicators and categories had appropriate validity. Findings and
The research showed that 20% of the content of examined TV series formed crime training, 27% of them formed the capacity of the police and crime prevention, 21% formed the prevalence of positive values, 13% formed the prevalence of negative values, and 18% formed the media tasks. Therefore, police TV series can be used as an effective tool in the prevention of crime.
