Construction and Validation of Sport Coaches Competencies Questionnaire

The Purpose of this research study was to Construction and Validation a competency scale for sport coaches. For this purpose, 300 coaches were chosen by purposive sampling and completed the sport coaches’ competencies researcher-made questionnaire. The method applied in this research was descriptive – correlation. The content and face validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by expert university panel and confirmatory factor analysis based on structural equations was used for validation of structure of questionnaire. Based on exploratory factor analysis by varimax rotation, 29 items placed in 7 factors, total variance of these factors explained %68.64 variance of sport coaches’ competencies, also the results of research showed that first-order and second-order confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’ alpha coefficient supported 7-factor and 29-item structure of the questionnaire, and confirm construct validity, internal consistency and temporal reliability. The findings of the study provide important insights into the competencies required by sport coaches. The findings of this study can be implemented to develop training programs for sport coaches and develop performance appraisal tools.
