The effect of salicylic acid treatment on Vase life of Gerbera jasmesonii

Abstract:
This paper reported the effectes of salicylic acid (SA), sucrose and citric acid on the vase life of cut Gerbera jasmesonii.In this paper salicylic acid (1.5,2.5 and 3.5 mM), citric acid (0 and150 mg-1) and sucrose (0, 3%) were prepared to make up fresh-keeping agents. The effects of salicylic acid on the total vase life, MDA and ACC-Oxidase were investigated. The experimental results showed that SA treatment were good at maintaining cut-flower water, descrease MDA and ACCoxidase, increase the fresh weight, reduce the membrane premeability, delayed senescence and reduction in peroxidation of lipids. Maximum of flower vase life was related with 2.5 mM SA 150 mg-1 citric acid sucrose (3%) in compared to control. In treatments which had more longevity, increasing of fresh weight and water uptake were more and there was a direct relationship between them.
