A Critical Analysis of Nature of Gravity from the Perspectives of Philosophy and Physics

Abstract:
This article is to study in brief the cause of falling bodied and revolution of heavenly bodies and then deals with famous theories in physics concerning general gravity. It is intended to show that although gravitational force is the oldest and earliest known interaction that has been studied and scrutinized by both philosophers and scientists, its nature is yet to be discovered. The main objection that can be made against general gravitation theory as the modern standard theory in describing gravitation is that although it gives a proper description of geometric property of space-time, it provides little explanation on its nature. In our view philosophy regards the cause and nature of gravitation mainly within things while physics attempts to find it from without. Therefore it is essential first to study the nature of mass through philosophical accomplishments rather than using purely empirical and mathematical view in explaining the nature of things. Philosophers on the other hand should make use of scientific discoveries particularly new observations in order that they are able to reformulate their concepts and ideas deepening their understanding of the universe on the basis of both physics and philosophy and finally giving a better account of gravity.
