Melatonin and Neurodegenerative Diseases

Abstract:
Introduction
Melatonin is synthesized in the pineal gland as well as in several peripheral tissues. The melatonin signal is translated through activation of two G protein coupled receptors, MT1 and MT2, and involves in several actions like regulation of circadian rhythms and sleep promotion. Melatonin is also suggested to play a role in treatment of different disorders especially neurological disorders like Alzheimers disease, Parkinson's disease and Huntington s disease through its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.Conclusion
The aim of the present review is to discuss the effect of melatonin in the above mentioned neurological disorders.Keywords:
