Comprehensive Evaluation and Comparison of Energy Security in OECD CountriesBased on Composite Indicator

Abstract:
This study with examination of the dimensions and indexes of energy security provided a comprehensive composite index for organization economic cooperation and development countries )OECD(. The used dimensions in this study are selected based on the newest definition by Soacool (2011) including "availability of energy", "the technology"," the price of energy", " the environment" and "the government stability". To examining and calculating these dimensions, 182 index for OECD countries is considered. Then countries are ranked based on the seven step methodology which is provided to build the composite index. The results of last Ranking is suggested that the United States has particularly attentive to the different aspects of energy security, so that with policy on this issue has been able to maintain a good difference with other countries of OECD and be first in energy security among this group. Preparation of strategic oil reserves, diversification of energy supply, having state-level high technology and good governance as important factors are known.
