The study of new alternatives in naming of Iranian newborns based on vestige theory framework

This paper examines new alternatives in newborn Iranian first names. This is done in the theoretical framework of Kostakis vestige theory. Considering the impact of gender on nomination, 1200 first names gathered non-randomly through the observer field experience method, and then analysed qualitatively.The results indicate the new social trend in Iran toward individualism is in congruence with selecting unusual innovative children names. Some linguistic evidence extracted from the data shows this congruity. These are the Old Persian female marker retrieval, alphabetical letter replacements, opaque names prevalence, non-Arab lexical borrowings and new compound formation patterns so it is concluded that the faithfulness constraint demotion observed is in harmony with the dominant social patterns of developing Iran.
