A Review of the Blessings Given to the Israelites and the Consequences of their Ingratitude

Message:
Abstract:
The eventful story of the Israelites who enjoyed many material and spiritual blessings and saw great miracles has important educational implications. The present paper refers to the Quranic verses and narrative and interpretive sources to analyze the reaction of these people to the divine blessings. Investigating the different aspects of the Israelites’ life, this study presents a clear picture of how they dealt with divine blessings and the causes and reasons for their ingratitude. Salvation from Pharaoh's slavery, enjoying living facilities, the twelve springs, the shadowing of clouds, colorful food, being released from entanglements and entering Jerusalem are among material blessings. The descent of the Torah, unity, divine forgiveness, and the messenger ship of numerous prophets are among the most important spiritual blessings for the Israelites. The consequences of their ungratefulness for these blessings include the thunderbolt, wandering in the wilderness, prohibition of pure women, plague, cruelty of heart, being dominated and humiliated, divine cursing, and refutation of good deeds, that are dealt with in this descriptive -analytical research method.
