Exploring and Classifying the Reasons for the Increase in Marriage Age among University Students

The purpose of this study is to explore and classify the reasons for the increase in university students’ marriage age. The method of the study is descriptive survey, the statistic society is the single students of Islamic Azad University, Eslamshahr Branch, and the sample consists of 392 students determined by Morgan table with stratified random sampling method. Information was gathered through a questionnaire that contained 52 determinants in five-level Likert scale with reliability coefficient of 0.902 in Cronbach’s alpha. In analyzing the data, one-sample z test was used in addition to descriptive statistics. The findings show that unemployment, low wages, fear of increasing living costs, emphasis on ownership of home and car prior to marriage, financial independence, the popularity of unhealthy youths relationships, lack of trust, the culture of ostentation, importance of having a good occupation that is related to the university degree, and lack of responsibility in married life, are respectively the most important, and stress about one’s sexual impotence, parents’ emphasis on mating among relatives, and boys’ martial service are the least effective reasons in the increasing marriage age among university students. Economic factors are the major reasons affecting the increasing marriage age of the university students.
