Assessing of Walkability in Urban crossings based on Space syntax Case Study: 9th Regional Municipality of Mashhad

Walkability, is the capacity and suitability for walking, and in an other word “the utility level of the artifact environment for presence, living, shopping, meeting, and passing the free times of the citizens in an urban area”. Based on this approach, the aim of this paper is assessing the walkability of the urban crossings of the 9th regional municipality of Mashhad based on the 5 indexes of walkability (environment safety, facilities of the sidewalks, physical conditions, environment accessibility and utility), analyzing its natural movement pattern by Space Syntax, by using the concept of Integration Value. The research method here is descriptive analytical based on developmental approach and information collecting method is done in two way, including field research ( observation, recording the pedestrians presence and having interview with authorities of 9th municipality) and documentary-desk study. In this research information analyzing software as ArcGis, Depth map & AutoCAD are used. This research according to the scoring table of indexes of walkability of the urban crossings of 9th regional municipality shows that crossings like Kalantari highway and Malek Abad Blvd ( 22-25 scores ) in the first priority, crossings like Sayyad Shirazi Blvd and Saremi (18-21 scores) in the second priority, boulevards like Ladan and Eqbal Lahuri ( 14-17 scores) in the third priority and crossings like Namaz and Bronsi Blvd ( 10-13 scores) are in the last priority of walkability.
