Land use Compatibility Assessment Birjand Based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)

It can be said that the most important means and practical force of governments and urban management organizations in order to managing the cities correct and rational is the urban land use planning. Nowadays, in the wake of rapid physical transformation of urban space, urban land use planning is based on two principles including sustainable development and improvement the quality of life in seeking the achieve goals such as balanced distribution of uses, avoiding interference incompatible uses and codifying suitable criteria and standards of uses. Therefore, the quality evaluation and the compatibility of different urban uses to ensure the rational settlement of them and observing the necessary proportionality in cities is essential. Hence, given the importance of the issue, in current study the uses compatibility of Birjand is evaluated by using new knowledge of the GIS and computational models like AHP. The research method is descriptive-analytical and the methods of collecting data are documentary and field study. Finally, a map is obtained in parts that shows the compatibility or incompatibility of land uses of Birjand. According to this map, the most land uses of Birjand are compatible and totally compatible related to each other and limited parts are incompatible or totally incompatible because of situating the industrial workshops and urban facilities close to the residential and hospitality-tourism uses.
