Abstract:
One of the most important contemporary questions about the language of the Quran is its meaningfulness and cognitivity. In the era of Allamah Tabatabai, these issues have not been seriously addressed in scientific circles, especially in the seminaries. According to Alameh, meaningfulness is the ability to transfer the speaker's intent to the mind of the listener. Based on this criterion, all the Quranic propositions, including the reporting and the imperative statements, are meaningful.
According to Allamah, mere reliance on positivistic criteria in meaningfulness of a proposition, either in the form of "positivistic verifiability" or "falsifiability", is not correct.
The criterion for meaningfulness of metaphysical propositions in religious texts is it’s susceptibility to be proved by rational criteria. Through this criterion, the propositions of the Quran and other religious texts are meaningful.
The cognitivity of the Quranic language has many internal and external proofs; among which are, the challenges of the Quran, it’s being away from any discrepancy in various dimensions, the reflection of the divine knowledge and wisdom in it, describing the Quran as truth and wise and the demonstrability of the Quranic propositions.
