Introduction
Substance abuse among adolescents is an important general health problem accompanied by various psychological abnormalities such as depression, anxiety disorder, hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit and conduct disorder. Hence, the present study is aimed at investigating the impact of teaching life skills on reducing addiction- proneness among Shahed secondary school male students.
Method
The present research work is based on the quasi-experimental method with a with pretestposttest and control group design. Sahed high school male students of Tabriz constituted the statistical population of the study. Using the availability sampling method, two groups of thirty students as experimental and control groups were selected randomly. The experimental group regularly attended training classes of life skills for 8 sessions. The Addiction Potential Scale was used for data collection purposes.
Result
Analysis of the data indicates that teaching life skills can reduce addiction-proneness among students.
Discussion
Life skills and their promotion can be effective in preventing people’s tendency towards substance abuse.
