Article Type:

Abstract:
Background
The evaluation of the links between science and technology has become a critical issue for policy makers in these fields. Several methods are in use for the evaluation of the linkage between science and technology, using citation metrics.
Purpose
This study aims to explore the patent citations intensity in journal papers within the field of chemistry in Iran, from 1381 -1390 (2002-2011).
Metholdology: : This study is a descriptive survey which has been conducted using the Reverse Citation Relations approach. The study covers all Iranian journal papers in the field of chemistry indexed in Magiran & SID databases.
Findings: Results reveal that although the list of references in the articles relating to this field has grown, the citation of patents throughout the years of the study period has practically remained the same.
Conclusion
The insignificant rate of growth in the number of citations to patents in Iranian chemistry papers is an evidence of a weak linkage between science and technology in this field.
