Construction and Validation of a Questionnaire on Knowledge, Attitude and Expectation toward Marriage in Tehran Police Single Staff

Aims: Marriage is one of the most important events and the factors of knowledge, attitude and expectation are the most important factors in a successful marriage. The purpose of this study was to construct and validate the knowledge, attitude and expectation toward marriage questionnaire in a sample of single police personnel of Tehran, Iran.
This descriptive-exploratory and survey-designing study was carried out in all police personnel of Tehran, Iran, in the first 6 months of 2014. Using the 2-stage cluster sampling, 396 subjects were selected as sample. The self-assessment knowledge, attitude and expectation toward marriage questionnaire and also demographic information form were used for data collection. The questionnaire content validity was assessed using of Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI). The reliability of the questionnaire was also evaluated using the internal consistency method (Cronbach's Alpha). Data analysis was performed using SPSS 22 software.
Findings: Three factors including knowledge, attitude and expectation toward marriage were extracted in based on explanatory factor analysis which expressed 41% of total variance. About 7% of this amount was attributed to attitude, 14% to expectation and 20% to knowledge factor. The CVR and CVI were 0.91 and 0.89, respectively. The reliability was 0.82.
The questionnaire of knowledge, attitude and expectation toward marriage with high validity and reliability is a good tool for evaluating these factors.
