Relationship between emotional intelligence and religious orientation with death anxiety in retired male employees of Khuzestan Steel Industries of Ahvaz

Several factors can affect the level of death anxiety. Some studies have shown the role of emotional intelligence and religious orientation in death anxiety. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and religious orientation with death anxiety. The statistical population of the study consisted of all male retired male employees of Khuzestan Steel Company. 300 of them were selected by simple random sampling method. All participants completed emotional intelligence and religious orientation questionnaire and death anxiety scale. Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression were used for analyzing the data at alpha level of 0.01. Findings showed that emotional intelligence and religious orientation have a negative and significant negative correlation with death anxiety. Also, the results of stepwise regression analysis showed that predictive variables explained 33.6% of the variance of death anxiety. The results of this study showed that, considering the age at which retired people are located, increasing the emotional intelligence of individuals and increasing religious beliefs and spiritual health of individuals can reduce the level of anxiety in the death of the elderly. Using spirituality can be a coping strategy for retired people.
