The place of Hegel in American Pragmatism

This article will consider the place of Hegel in American Pragmatism in two sections briefly. First section has been dedicated to the role of Hegel in classical pragmatism and second section investigates and evaluates the same role in neopragmatism. Among classical pragmatists, all three main pragmatists appeal to Hegel’s philosophy in order to explain their pragmatic thoughts, they have positive approach to Hegel, and they confess themselves as Hegelian. At the same time, they have negative approach to him and reject his anti pragmatism thoughts. However, Rorty and Brandom, among neopragmatists, adopt Hegelian approach in their philosophies. The strengths and weaknesses of these views will appear in this consideration.
