The legal Status of Historic waters in law of the sea

The doctrine of historic waters was introduced in the early twentieth century in law of the sea. After more than a century of implementation aforesaid doctrine in between stats, until today can be witness of little progress. In the Convention on the territorial sea and the contingous area and Convention law of the sea, there is no regulations concerning the historic waters.However, today in international law, a large number of stats, according to the doctrine of historic waters in the seas are seeking to expand their jurisdictional ambit, but the lack of clear and specific rules in this regard has led to differences at the international level. Therefore, given the lack treaty provisions in this context,the fundamental question is that historic water situation how is in international law of the sea? regarding to studies conducted seem to if claimant state sovereignty to historic waters over the internal waters continued in a long time and other states haven’t objected to this sovereignty, claimed region will be internal waters and if claimant state sovereignty to historic waters over the territorial sea, continued in a long time and other states haven’t objected to this sovereignty, claimed region will be territorial sea.
