191 Vol.12 " No.46 " Spring-Summer 2017 Political Culture and Soft Power of the Islamic Revolution; Case Study: The Document of Iranian National Identity Components

Political culture is one of the Iranian soft power sources; disregarding it may make some difficulties appreciating the soft power of the Iranian society. Iranian political culture has national and religious roots in the history of Iran and it does not have any contradiction to Islamic interests and religious values. This has made Iranian political culture effective in the reproduction of Iran’s soft power. These components and resources of soft power are reflected in higher documents of Islamic Republic of Iran. One of them is the Document of Iranian National Identity Components in which some of these components have been mentioned. Using qualitative content analysis and library research, this paper is going to answer this question: Which political cultures in this document reproduce soft power? Some findings show that components like Velayat-orienting, paying attention to the obligation regarding the establishment of justice global government, spirituality in social life, people integration (regardless of ethnic and race interests), improving waiting culture and doing our best in paving the way for Imam Mahdi’s emergence, and resistance strategic culture are all effective in the enhancement of Iran’s soft power. The examples of these are seen in the Islamic revolution and present conditions of Iran. Therefore Iran’s society is required to review these components and resources of political culture in order to improve its soft power in national and international levels and strengthening them as well.
