Abstract:
Adsorption of Methylene Blue (MB), a basic dye, from aqueous solutions by green algae Cladophora sp. (a low-cost adsorbent) has been attended. A series of assays were undertaken to assess the effect of the system variables (i.e. contact time, solution pH, sorbent dosage and initial dye concentration). Removal percentage of the dye was a maximum in 10 ppm dye solution at pH 6.5 when 1200 ppm adsorbent was used for one hour. Adsorption kinetics data were analyzed by pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. The results indicated that pseudo-second-order model (R2 = 0.9998) better described the adsorption experimental data than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model for dye. Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.9992) exhibited excellent fit to the equilibrium adsorption data with monolayer adsorption capacity of 22.2 mgg .
