Investigating effect of vertical green system on residential thermal function and environmental sustainability improvement (Study area: Babol, Mazandaran, Iran)

One of the most important issues that have been considered by most developing countries in recent decades is prevention of energy dissipation. In order to increase green space in cities and reduce energy consumption in buildings, one of the solutions is using of vertical greenery systems.
In this research, descriptive - analytical method is used using field studies and modeling to investigate the effect of vertical greenery systems on the thermal performance of residential buildings with common different materials in walls and facades in Babol in summer.
The results show that the best direction for installation of green systems in order to reduce energy consumption is south in summer ¡ then the west and east, and the lowest point on the northern direction. Installation of these systems in this tree directions in total, leads to reduction in energy consumption up to 15% And, consequently, its effect on the cement block wall and clay block wall with break facade will be more.
It seems that vertical greenery systems can be used as one of the optimal options for covering building facades especially residential landscapes in Mazandaran and Babol region and play a positive role in reducing energy consumption.
