Abstract:
Rutting and stripping are among the main distresses that occur in flexible pavements. Moisture damage will result in other distresses such as cracking, raveling and rutting. In this study, rutting and stripping resistance of asphalt mixtures containing different percentages Googas (30, 40 and 50 percent) were evaluated and compared with asphalt mix control under the same conditions. The optimum binder content was obtained from Marshall Method of mix design. The effects of varying googas contents on moisture susceptibility of asphalt mixes were investigated using Indirect Tensile Strength (AASHTO T-283) test. Rutting of this mixes were investigated using Marshall Quotient (ASTM D-1559) test. Marshall Quotient test was performed at temperatures of 45 and 60 ° C. Marshall Quotient test results show that the addition of googas increased the rutting resistance of the asphalt mixes. Indirect tensile test results show that the addition of googas does not increased resistance to moisture susceptibility. Therefore, anti-stripping additives should be used.
