Hurdles and challenges of probiotic usage

Probiotics are the living microorganisms whose adequate intake causes the health effects of the host to appear, and have been suggested to be effective in preventing and treating many diseases with beneficial effects. In this article, the hurdles and challenges of probiotic products in manufacturing process and effects on human health will be examined.
This study is a narrative review, In order to gather information, articles containing one of the words in their text, including: Probiotic, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Biogenic amine and Resistace to antibiotic were searched between 1990 to 2017 in THOMSON REUTERS, PUBMED, SCOPUS, SCIENCE DIRECT and ISC databases.
FINDINGS: Researches show that systematic infections and chronic diseases, excessive stimulation of immune system, transfer resistance gene to antibiotics, production of biogenic amines and D-lactic acid, Survival and stability of microorganisms and ultimatly flavor and taste changes of probiotic are the obstacles and problems regard the production of probiotics.
Probiotics are only safe in healthy people, although they are very useful for human health, but their use can be infected in children, pregnant women and people with a weakened immune system. Also the use of bifidobacterium is safer from the point of view transferring antibiotic resistance genes than other microorganism for probiotic production
