Abstract:
Muslim philosophers have brought up entities as intermediaries to explain the mode of the interrelation of the existence levels. In Mulla Sadras Philosophy, the Expanding Existence, as The First Originated Being, situates between the Hidden Ipseity and essences. This Existence is the ground of the ontological foundation of principality, unity and gradation of existence. Thus the ontology based on the intermediate role of this Existence is an elaborated manifest of the Sadraean intermediarism. Based on this intermediaristic structure, infinite intermediaries would be possible, though their names and determinations are unknown, their beings are not deniable. The Expanding Existence is the unique existence while consisting of infinite levels, and always there could be an intermediate level conceived between two ontological levels of this existence. Accordingly, all entities, including the intermediaries to which antecedent philosophers were referring, can be explained as levels of this unique existence. The advantages of this explanation can be seen in solving problems such as the unity and the multiplicity of God's acts, the nature of knowledge, and position of the word and the archetypical forms.
