Effect of Nano-lime Additive on Cold Recycled Asphalt’s Modules of Stiffness

Environmental issues have become one of the most important challenges in the world today. The process of producing and compacting hot mixed asphalt has been transformed into a costly industry due to the high consumption of fossil fuels and pollution generation, one of ways have been proposed to solve this problem is use of cold recycled asphalt. In the production of recycled asphalt, the use of a filler like cement is essential. The production of cement involves greenhouse gas emissions. In order to reduce these destructive effects and also to improve the mechanical properties of recycled asphalt, it is possible to use additives other than cement in this type of asphalt. In this research, the addition of nano-lime to emulsion bitumen instead of cement in recycled asphalt is used to improve the properties of asphalt fatigue. The method of analyzing information is comparative and based on the diagrams obtained from experimental survey. In this study, tensile stress, tensile strain, and stiffness modulus of asphaltic concrete were measured by bending the four-point bending test. Based on the results, a comparison between the stiffness modulus for samples with different weight percentages of additives indicates that the asphalt stiffness modulus improves by adding nano-lime. The average stiffness modulus for the sample with 2.5 % of nano-lime is highest and for the non-nano-lime mode, it has the lowest value.
