Improving the Potential Risks of Traveling by Bus through FMEA

Recently a noticeable increase in road accidents related to buses has been reported. Of course, a comprehensive survey of these tragic events that has led to the death of a large number of our beloved countrymen is a duty as human being. FMEA method as an updated method in risk analysis can be useful for possible reduction in similar incidents. This research has been conducted with collaboration of experienced engineers group in Oghab Afshan Industrial Co. (The manufacturer of Scania buses in Iran), that has been directly affected from accidents relating to Scania buses in recent years. It should be mentioned that Scania buses are the main proportion of the Iran's active road transportation. This study represents a new application of FMEA, Crash FMEA, with some modification in table of risk elements to provide the fastest actions faced with several accidental factors that will be helpful in buses road accidents. Certainly, ranking these accidental factors and focusing more on the factors with higher ratings, would be an efficient and effective action in the shortest possible time to reduce life casualties. The results of this research project include actions that are required to carry out by driver, after sales service centers and Traffic Police. With the prioritization and implementation of preventive measures, we can see a dramatic reduction in buses road accidents with the lowest cost and fastest possible time.
