Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfahani

The present paper aimed to shed light on some new details of the assassinations of Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfahani (the 4th altar martyr) drawing from the data in the judicial case of this assassination carried out by Mujahideen- e Khalq Organization. The number of Munafiqin terrorism-related acts in Iran diminished considerably in the fall of 1982, about one year and a half after the initiation of their militaristic activities and terrorist attacks. The reason for this decrease was that Iran Intelligence Service struck three deadly blows to Munafiqin in the second half of 1981 and early 1982, unraveling them on the inside.
In June-July 1982, Ayatollah Mohammad Sadooghi, Leader of Friday Prayers (Imam Jumu’ah) in Yazd, was martyred in a terrorist attack by Munafiqin. Before this, Ayatollah Madani and Ayatollah Abdulhussein Dastgheib were assassinated by Munafiqin in September-October and November-December of 1981, respectively. After the martyrdom of Ayatollah Sadooghi, Imam Khomeini issued and order, and Supreme Council of Armed Forces passed a bill, on the establishment of Committee for Protection of Prominent Figures. Mujahideen-e Khalq Organization assigned Mohammad Hussein Khodakarami and a second agent who used the pseudonym ‘Nader’ to the assas sination of Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfahani. This terrorist attack was carried out successfully on 15 October 1981, leading to the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfahani. In the wake of this event, the relevant organizations prepared reports on the reasons and motivations of this assassination. If we learn from these historical events, we would be able to thwart any attempt against Iran officials.
