Sourciology of Regional Development in Iran

Development experience of many underdeveloped countries shows that despite continuous efforts to achieve sustainable development and balanced growth, they have not been able to meet their objectives. Poor economic performance and inequality of income and wealth along with regional imbalances lead policy makers to review their development strategy. It seems thatthey have reached the conclusion that the main problem was inadequate attention being paid to regional development in their strategy. These problems in Iran is more serious. Migration of capital and labor from center to periphery is a peculiar characteristic of Iranian economic development. The question that arises is that why despite available capital and development of infrastructure and institutional facilitation and many studies on regional development the country s achievement in this regard is not defensible. If this trend is not reversed it may lead to crisis with high costs. In this paper we try to study the problem by examine the content of research and study on regional development concentrating on sourciology of regional development in Iran. We have included in our study all "research projects", papers","books","thesis and Dissertation" undertaken in the country over the period 1976- 2016.We found that there has been a high concentration of studies regionally and periodically in Iran. Most of the studies being "research Projects "undertaken during 2006-2016.And most studies being concentrated on relatively more developed Provinces such as" Isfahan", "Fars","Khuzestan","Gilan", Azerbaijan Sharghi","Tehran" and "KhorasanRazavi", While relatively less development areas such as "Kohgloye va Bovairahmad", "Eillam","KhorasanShomali", Khorasan Jonoobi"has received much less attention.
