Khangiran Topping Plant Simulation & Plant Heat Integration Using Heat of Diesel and Kerosene Products

Abstract:
In this study, the topping unit of the Khangiran gas refinery was simulated using ASPEN PLUS software. To define the feed of the unit, the diagram of true boiling point (TBP) was used. Consequently, the parameters of the tower and operational variables obtained from the simulation were compared with the values of the initial design. Using the results and according to the structural constraints of unit and the inability of coolers on the way of the flow of diesel and kerosene to meet the needs based on design, it was decided to use the thermal energy of these streams for preheating the feed of unit to the extent possible. Due to these changes in the unit, as expected, the heat load and subsequently gas consumption of the furnace (H301) reduced by 14%. It is equivalent to $21,944 per year reduction in unit operating costs. In addition, while the flow of products remained constant, one of coolers was removed from unit and the heat load of another cooler reduced, significantly. Finally using ASPEN HTFS software, two process-process exchangers designed and geometric results reported. Considering the area obtained for new heat exchangers and the estimated price, payback period reported 1.96 years.
