The Changes of Quran’s Interpretation in Shiite Sect during Safavid Period

Recognizing the Shiite Doctrine in Safavid dynasty in Iran – from tenth century to the middle of twelfth century – and spreading the religious atmosphere of Twelfth Imamiyah have left various effects on the different fields of religious sciences especially on the Qur'an’s interpretation. As a result, there arose some critical changes. Some of the changes are as follow: appearance and expansion of traditionalism movement in Shiite seminaries, extensive writing of interpretation based on hadiths, fading the theological approaches in the interpretation of the Qur'an, developing the jurisprudential interpretation, harsh blaming of the Shiite scholars on the caliphs, growing tendency toward hermeneutics, tending to philosophy and applying it in interpretation, emphasizing on using the infallibles’ traditions, getting away from basics, viewpoints and methods of Sunni interpretation, and excessive attention toward the verses concerning Imams’ virtues. The present article, by using descriptive - analytical method and deep studying of the exegetical and historical works of Safavid dynasty, has analyzed interpretative changes occurring in this period.
