The mediating role of internet usage motives in the relation between attachment styles and internet addiction.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to examine the mediating role of internet usage motives in the relation between attachment styles and internet addiction. Statically society was all of Islamic Azad University Urmia Branch students, during 2015-2016 (1394-95.s.c.) and 204 participants were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method and were asked to complete the Adult Attachment Inventory, the internet usage motives questionnaire and the Internet Addiction Test. Using path analysis and software SPSS 20 and LISREL-8.53, the data were analyzed. Results of path analysis revealed that secure and ambivalent attachment styles had direct and positive effects on internet addiction. Secure attachment style had indirect and positive effect via Escape / spend time motive on internet addiction but the indirect effect of ambivalent and avoidance attachment styles on internet addiction was not significant. The results also indicated that the hypothesized model had a good fit with the observed data. Predictor variables together explained 23% of the changes in internet addiction. In general, the results of this research emphasize the necessity of considering the role of internet usage motives and attachment styles in internet addiction students.
