Comparative study of depression, anxiety and stress between blind and normal individuals

This study aimed to compare the depression, anxiety and stress between blind and normal individuals in Isfahan city. The present research was a causal-comparative study. The study population included blind students and normal students aged 19-24 years old at the University of Isfahan. Sample of this research consisted of 70 people and they were divided into two groups of 35 students. First group students were selected from blind students by convenient sampling method; while the second group participants were selected from normal students by randomly method. The tool used in the present research was Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) by LoviBond and LoviBond (1995). The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance test with 23th version of SPSS. findings showed that anxiety and stress in blind students was significantly higher than the normal students (P<0.0005). But depression in blind students and normal students had not significant difference (P>0.05). depression, anxiety and stress are emotional reactions and multidimensional phenomenon in which visual condition has an important role. Therefore, paying attention to these reactions is essential in blind and normal students.
