Abstract:

Background and Objectives
Nowadays, the effect of exercise training and Aloe Vera supplement on diabetes has been identified, but the simultaneous effect of them on diabetes is unknown. Therefore, the aim of present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high intensity interval training (HIT) and moderate intensity interval training (MIT) along with Aloe Vera intake on serum levels of chemerin, glucose and insulin in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats.
Materials and Methods
In this experimental research, 32 males diabetic Wistar rats induced with STZ injection, were randomly assigned into four groups including diabetic, Aloe Vera (300 mg/kg), HIT+Aloe Vera supplement, and MIT+Aloe Vera supplement. Exercise training program was performed for eight weeks. Each exercise session consisted of 6-12 two-minute bouts (40 m.min-1 in HIT group and 25 m.min-1 in MIT group) that each bout followed by one-minute active rest. Chemerin and insulin levels were measured by ELISA method and data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s post hoc test.
Results
The results indicated a significant decrease of chemerin levels in the MIT group compared to the diabetic and HIT groups (p>0.001). Moreover, significant increase of serum insulin levels was observed in the HIT group compared to the other groups (p<0.001). Insulin increase in the supplement group was also significant compared to the diabetic and MIT groups (p<0.001). But, glucose changes were not statistically significant (p>0.05).
Conclusion
It seems that exercise training along with Aloe Vera supplement is effective in the improvement and control of diabetes, and probably this effect is due to the decrease in chemerin or increase in insulin levels
