A Juridical Analysis of Spreading Lies in the Press
One of the indisputable rules of Shari'ah is the prohibition of lying and, by extension, spreading lies, a method used today by the press and media to generate income. Kizb (lying) which is the act of saying something false and untrue has clear manifestations such as lying, slandering and spreading rumors. An analytical study of written documents and a reflection on the words of jurists reveal that, despite discrepancies in the definitions offered by scholars for lying and in addition to the clear manifestations of lying, publishing a news article which may cause the reader to be misled, making use of exaggerated headlines without considering proportionality and publishing skeptic and doubtful news without stating that they are skeptic and questionable are among the manifestation of lying, and prohibitive reasons will also apply to them.
