The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Irrational Beliefs with Mental Health

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and irrational beliefs and mental health. The statistical population of this research is all teachers of education in Masjed-e-Sulayman city in the academic year of 96-95. The sample consisted of 265 teachers who were selected by stratified random sampling. To measure the variables, Baron's Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, Jones's irrational beliefs and Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) were used. The results indicate that there is a significant relationship between the emotional intelligence dimensions (emotional self-awareness, courage, self-esteem, self-actualization, independence, empathy, social accountability, reality, tolerance, impulse control, happiness, optimism) has it. But between (interpersonal relationships, problem solving, flexibility), there was no correlation between mental health of teachers. Also, there is a significant relationship between the components of irrational beliefs including high self-esteem, reaction to failure, emotional insecurity, avoidance of problems, dependency, disappointment towards change, perfectionism with mental health teachers, and between (the need for confirmation and support of others, There is no meaningful relationship with mental health of teachers). The results of regression analysis showed that about 55% of variance of mental health is explained by emotional intelligence and irrational beliefs.
